There were 1500 guests on Saturday am. I think it is bots.
Ar15 and other boards aren't having the same trouble.
I think it is the Repubs throwing a tantrum fix for losing.

Hey Meb, how's the weather in Tejas? do you think the ice storms may be effecting the server location for the Falfiles? maybe power out or bad transmission cables.

Weather in TX is clear. Servers are in FL I believe, or they used to be. I think we are being f-ed with. Was thinking "Who is going to get up saturday morning to F with the Falfiles?" That's why I think bots or someone overseas. Who knows? It does sux though.
I think it's the weather, many websites are super slow or down completely.

My imagination wont allow for a benign cause for the FAL files problems, it appears no one wants to closely examine the turd in the punch bowl.
I find that analogous to our countries general malaise,,, see J Carter circa 1978, he was chiding us for making him preside over our lack of will.

My own computer up and decided to reboot itself a lttle while ago. Strange...

was taken to a joke page, similar to a "cannot display this page" notice
except it was bunch of sarcastic "you spend too much time surfing the
net" BS.
I had just completed a weekly virus scan, did another right after (cuz I'm
paranoid that way), and had no problem with any other site.
Just has to be related. :mad:

It took me about 5 tries to even get to the home page. 3407 users online (1791 members and 1616 guests)
As a contributing member I think its time to cut back on the upper limit of guests that can surf our bandwidth.

How about limiting NON-MEMBERS?? I've been a member of the FAL Files since the old blue board and a contributor as well. My contributor staus right now is run out, only because I'm working 12 hours a day 6 days a week and can't get to the post office for a damn money order.

At least we have the AR files to fall back on! Gives me a chance to look around here. I spotted the AR pistol thread! Now I can figure out if I want one of those dang things. I have been fighting the urge to buy one for a year now. Don't know what I would use it for. But it might be different. Guess I got to ask some questions on here about them.

Well a couple weeks ago Jen said that in the near future she was going to be shutting things down to do a complete upgrade that should decrease the attacks on the site. I'm guessing (hoping) that she's doing it right now.

I would be surprised if she is doing the "Big Enchillada" at this time, but ya never know. When I talked to her Sunday, she said it would take a smooth TWO WEEKS of her time to make the changeover of JUST the FalFiles. (Holy Shyte !!!) She made no statements as to "Who, What, Where or When" is the culprit(s) behind the problems we are having. If it IS malicious interference, then it is a felony. In which case, she would not be well put to say a damned word about it. What I DO know about it, is that she is pursuing the fix with extreme prejudice. A lot of vendors and a lot of paying reprobates (that would include ME :D ) are foremost in her mind. The boards are not a big ass profit center, contrary to popular belief, so a lot of it is, from my perspective, a bit over a "break-even" fun aside. (ho-pe that makes sense.
Meanwhile, I guess we old FalFarts can cause hate and discontent over here.

Just some server maintenance and a quick database backup 'tis all at this time. Still haven't tracked down the exact issue(s) or culprits causing the server slow downs, but we are working on it.
When I get the time to do the server upgrades (software and hardware) I'll post an announcement letting folks know that an outtage is impending. We'll also be migrating posts over a year old (since last post) to an archive to help reduce server / search loads.

I've never understood the point of cyber attacks like that. Then again, I really don't like all this technology and the fact it makes such destructve activities so easy. Even a teen can do it.
