OK. I looked at Saiga the other day cuz it was all Russian. There are nearly $300 now and too high. Maybe at half that would have done it. Also considered Global Trades 1.6mm and having one cobbled together; a nice fixed with wood and slant brake. Bought M4 stuff though. Might go the Global way for Christmas; make something good out of two things I hate. :)

Saigas and Globals and all those are a piece of shit without any class. The AKM is essentially garbage, especially non-factory ones (the Chinese made the best ones and there is no getting around it). Replace the crappy wood on a Chinese one and you got something cool.

Polytech Legend AK47S is what you gotta get. Sure, they cost a bunch, but they are worth it. Every other AK I have seen besides Chinese ones are worth what an SKS is- not much. Americans have yet to figure out how to really make one.

If you say those are the best AKs I believe you. However, they are over $1,000, which is a lot of money for an AK. A couple hundred more and you are pushing pre-ban FAL territory.

I guess I wouldn't say they are nicest if you figure in Valmets and Galils. And that is true about the preban FAL, however, my Polytech shoots as good as my preban FAL within reasonable range (the FAL takes it out past 150-200 yds) and has a much better finish and attention to detail than any preban FAL I have ever seen. That includes FN made ones that cost twice what a legend does. Cheap commie labor. It has a few mill marks here and there but nothing like you see on a FAL.

I have heard the US made SAM-7s are good too, they are milled, but not blued like they are supposed to be. They also have thinner barrels than the Chinese ones do and doubt the trigger is as good (could be wrong on that though).

AK-47s have that classic WWII styling and are basically a rifle stuffed into the body of a submachine gun. The best of both worlds to any Russian that lived through Stalingrad or other huge battles.
