For anyone building an AR pistol, what is your preferred barrel, upper, buffer?
I can't decide if I like the kittykat type barrel or something longer. For now I am going to use a modified carbine buffer tube. I would prefer something shorter or even no tube at all, but I am making this one up out of leftover parts.

There is something to be said for the small pistols without a buffer tube.
Olympic makes the OA series pistols and you can buy just an upper...but there is a back log and expect to wait a few months. The Air Force order put them behind in 2004 and they still have never caught up. If you want any standard 223 or 5.56 rifle they are pumping them out...and deviations and you are gonna wait.

But..there is also something to be said for the carbine sized buffer tubes. They handle like an SBR and give you the oppurtunity to mount them with a good cheek weld. The shorty buffer tubes are harder to shoot unless you shoot them off hand like any other handgun....and it is not as steady.
As far as accuracy my 7.5" can hit a soda can easily at 100 yards with just a red dot site. The major problem with the short barrels is reliability. The shorter they are the more tempramental they seem to be.
If you test differnt ammo and loads you will find a reliable load for the 7.5" and mine seems to like 55grain full power loads.
Here's a pic:

With a single point sling it hangs in a ready position and is actually easily concealable in just a Carhart style ranch jacket.
If I had to do it all over....I would get a standard A2 upper and front A2 sites over the gas block/flat top...night sites too.
I don't care for the 10-11" size...they just seem like carbines with a short barrel like a dissy and no butt-stock..but they do seem more reliable with different ammo loads than the 7" size.

Thanks for the info. As I said I'm going to make this one from leftover parts.
I am going to use a carbine buffer tube, an A-2 upper that is a one-off slabside and a leftover 11.5" barrel.
I am thinking of doing the kitty-kat FSB position, but maybe leave a little extra length to the barrel. I know from building short-gas FALs that having more barrel length past the gasport increases dwell time and helps reliability.
Any preference for muzzle devices? I have an extra 3-prong.
Now where can I find a Kitty-Kat gastube?
