What exactly is the point of an AR pistol? I haven't used one nor even seen one other than in pics. I have yet to come up with a reason for having one. ( I am speaking of pratical reasons. Not that I am advocating outlawing them)

HBR

The reason for an AR pistol is the same for having a FAL or AK pistol, becasue you can.

The AR pistol with the proper muzzle brake is a light to shoot weapon that is blast to shoot :D .

Need I say more?

Waste of a good rifle, and ammo.

That being said, I dont care if you want one or not, I have been thinking of doing an AK pistol build, and that is just as much of a waste.

I did see a FAL pistol build, and to be honest that thing was so nasty that I could be convinced to have those banned!...

That's about it.

Ever since I handled one, I wanted one. So I did it. No other reason.

Oh, yeah, my AK pistol lives under my desk at home. Kinda handy.

Because they are fun. I didn't want one until I shot one....then I had to have one!!

there isn't a pratical reason other then the fact that you can and they are fun....

I suppose that you could put the effort into being able to shoot one accurately. That would make it a pretty effective defensive tool I'd imagine. I think that even at the reduced velocity it would have, a 5.56/.223 would be more effective than a 9mm, or even a .45ACP. And it fits into a small pack.

Well, in the Good Old Days (pre-Bush 1.0) it used to be that you could build a pistol out of a rifle receiver as long as said receiver had never been built as a rifle, i.e. it was a "virgin" receiver. Then the revisionist Klintonistas began driving the bus, and I no longer know whether that rule applies to ARs any more. The only way to get the truth now is to get a decision IN WRITING from ATF Firearms Technical Branch, and of course they will decide as far in their own favor as they are able.

I have always wondered how reliable the are.
Some vendors have had the pistol buffer kits at gun shows and they looked a bit cheesey....

I just could never do that to a nice rifle receiver.

I too much respect for myself.:p

As long as when the transfer is done it is recorded as a pistol then you can build it as a pistol or as a rifle even. However if it is ever or has ever been transfered or sold as a rifle then a rifle it must remain.

Why does a dog lick its balls...? because it can.

Why do I have an AR pistol...? Because I can.

What better way is there to bump fire, than to use an ar pistol?

I really thought about this last week. I was traveling, maybe 300 miles away from home in an unfamiliar city. No friends or relatives in the area.

Call me a paranoid, but I get that 'twitchy feeling' being too far from home, especially in todays AQ threatening environment. IF something happens there will be mass panic, exodus of cities, looting, no fuel to be bought anywhwere. So I packed my AR-15 shorty, but I'm not going to leave it in the car in some hotel parking lot over night. Too much chance of burglary. However, in a SHTF scenario I wanted some rifle power available to help get home if needed.

Taking the duffle with the shorty into the hotel just 'screamed rifle' as my wife put it, but nobody said anything. Like I carred anyway..

An AR-15 pistol in that situation would have been perfect for discreet concealment. Especially with a push pin takedown, and breaking it into two pieces.

It depends on the brand. Rock River uses a long one, Bushmasters is shorter, the one on my friends Patriot is long and Olympic arms doesn't even have a tube.

Olympic has 3 different pistols offered.

OA-93 Is the AR pistol with no buffer tube

OA-98 Is similar to the OA-93 and is available for Ban States in lightweight 49 ounces

K23P Same as their standard K23 shorty 6.5"bbl carbine except a short buller tube with foam covering

Ok guys. I don't know what I would use it for but they look like I might enjoy one. So a few questions to those who know.

If you were thinking about getting a AR Pistol. Which one would you get and why?

Anyone had anything to do with the Bushmaster Carbon 15 pistols or rifles? Do they hold up well? I am a bit nervous about a non metal receiver.

How's the recoil on these pistols?

Thanks!

I had one of the "pre-Bushmaster" carbon 15's. I kept it around a year with no malfunctions or misfeeds. I sold it only because:
1. The internal parts were non-interchangable with other AR variants.
2. The optional scope mount base was specific to that pistol only and virtually unobtainable. (not to mention expensive).

Comments on living w/ the pistol:

The bad--Rumors abounded about low round count wear on the non metalic upper & lower. (Though I never heard a 1st person problem reported.)

The Good-- When you touch it off at the range, EVERYONE looks down the firing line at you!! It has a LOUD / SHARP bark when it fires.

Controlability-- While I didn't fire it one handed, it was very controlable & accurate. Someone else's report of soft drink cans at 100 yds is entirely do-able (at lease w/ the carbon-15 & a red-dot)
