Looking to buy 25 additional AR mags, 20 round versions- silly state law here, and I started thinking about what people do to test or check out their mags if they were going to be used in a SHTF setup?

When I carried a 1911 I fired my carry load out of each of the four mags I planned on using at least ten times to make sure I had ZERO failures.

With current ammo costs, 25x20=500 rounds. That is no problem but to test each mag say ten times that starts to get expensive.

Anyone know what the US military does? Do troops go out with virgin mags?

(Yes, I am increasing my SHTF supplies.)

I always did stuff like drop, mud, sand, water test then the mag must be able to fire all 20 rounds

If youare not going too use all 25 at once you could use 5 a few times, then use a onther 5 a few times all the way though then start over.

I have taken virgin mags out in the military, I have taken virgin Checkmate mags out without any problems.

It would be nice to be able to test your mags for SHTF, but honestly, just how many mags do you need, or carry in a day?

I carry a handgun everyday, I put a spare mag in my back pocket behind my wallet, so honestly Im packing 25 rounds to get me to my rifle.

When I got my first real handgun, a 1982 or so Colt Lightweight Commander, it was SOP with a 1911 to fire at least 200 rounds of carry ammo before you trusted the gun. Maybe I am old fashioned? When I bought some new BHP mags, I tried each one out with the ball ammo I use. (BHP is a SHTF gun.)
