On an AR are they like tits on a boar? Do you own one? Is a high quality, Chris Reeve or other knife, better then having a bayonet?
I understand wanting one if you are trying to reproduce say the gear your dad had, or you.

Every rifle that I own, that has a Bayo lug, has a Bayonet to go with it...
Im former Military, and to be honest...
Deep down in a sick, dark, twisted place. I would have loved to slowly shove the steel into the enemy's chest while looking into his eyes.

I have an M9 just for the hell of it. It doesn't even it my 16" M4. I do plan on finding a way to extend the handle so that it does though. Should be easy, easier than those extended M7's. The M9 does not have a one piece blade and tang like almost every other knife and bayonet made. The "tang" is only about an inch long and steps into a threaded round piece. That screws into a round rod, the handle slides over that, and the end cap is is held on by a bolt that screws into the other end of that rod.

There was a run of bayonets that were specially made for the 16inch AR barrels by Eikhorn for Colt several years ago. I run across them time to time on the auction sites.

Yeah, but I don't want to spend the rediculous amount they were asking for them. Or for the M7's that I see for sale every so often. I'm not spending $90 on an M7.
I think that making an extension for the M9 would be pretty cheap.

Sorry for the dumb question, but why won't the M9 fit the M4 carbine? When the bayo clicks on the stud is the blade to short to be any good. Whats the story on the new Marine Corp bayonet, isn't it made for the M4 carbine? I don't own an M4 yet, just a 20" A2, but I'm in the process of building a carbine and would like to get a bayonet sometime soon so I want to get the right one. If I need to get two different bayonets thats fine, but I would like to know my options though. Sorry for hijacking your thread.............peewee

The bayo will fit a M-4, but your civi mod has a 16" bbl, unless you get a 14.5 and pin, or weld a Phantom or similar flash hider on it....

The ring that is supposed to be around the base of the flash hider, will instead by a couple inches further down on the barrel. It's a smaller diameter there and the bayonet will rattle around a lot. It also looks just plain goofy.

Somebody post a link for the 'special' bayonet that will fit my Bushmaster Dissipator...please!
The V-MATCH 24 just won't get a bayonet.
If I can figure out how to make one fit my 2003 SEBR Rifle, I'd do it.

What about a 16in barrel with a mid-lengeth gas system/foregrip?
No worky?

A standard M7/M9 bayonet will work on a 14.5" barrel, a 20" barrel, and a 16" barrel with the mid-length gas system.
That's why I have one of each and a bayonet for each as well (plus my Colt M7 for the A1 Retro project)...:)
