Heck, I just wish I had my gear organized enough to get pictures of it.. as is it'd take me a week just to get it all straightened out (yes, I know, it should already be straightened out).

I'll see if I can't snap a few pictures of some of it though, maybe even get things re-organized while I'm at it :)

Geez Jen, how much gear do you have?

I am starting to feel bad cuz I only have a canteen and a single ammo pouch. :(

More than I could possibly carry. My problem is that I have too many different options to choose from that I can't pick just one set of gear to go with.

More ammo
Less other crap
More ammo

The one thing everyone in combat wants is more ammo. That's pretty much what the combat vets have told me.

Need a source of fire: fire is to be used with care, smell and light can be picked up a long ways off. I would always have one though, you just don't know.
Poncho
Poncho liner
some food
canteen
Some first aid gear
knife or bayo depending on what I am carrying.
Small amount of spare underwear and socks--they can be warmed and dried against your body, FWIW

More ammo

That is if we are really talking about a true "combat load".
300-500rds. Guys I knew who were in Nam carried 300rds in 10 mags and whatever spare they could stash in somewhere depending on how many grenades, spare mortar rds, MG belts, etc you are expected to carry.
In a real firefight I think you could go thru 200 rds pretty damn fast and you should pull back before you get close to out.

Smoke is a good idea. No pull back should ever be made without smoke. Same for some assaults. You can make your own with stump killer and sugar.

The loads I am seeing here seem more for well armed, extended hikes.

What I have I can carry on a web belt with a buttpack and have a much easier time moving, esp if I have to move quickly.

That's my 2 cents, make what you will of it.
I live pretty far north whcih has it's own concerns and in winter...well winter is not much of a time for combat up here. Trying to move in 3 feet of snow, not to mention the ease with which you can be tracked and spotted, just not a very good plan. That is the conclusion I have come to anyhow.

Where do you carry your extra smokes and rubbers?

Now there is a man thinking tactically if I have ever observed one. He is it.

Good job Mr Goodwreck;)

Why am I going to be worrying about birth control in a combat theater?
I'll just be looking to have some fun and increase by gene's frequencies in the gene pool.:D

And smoking in a combat zone is just asking for it!

Anyhow, besides the smell try this sometime:

Go out and get your night vision. Have a bud go 200m or so away, even 400m, and have him light up.

You'll be in for a surprise if you have never seen it before.

Do not feel left out. I am always finding something new that I need. Too much gear out there to have it all.
